The Prince

The Prince

If you are lucky enough, you might be planting one day with the Prince himself. The legend says he runs a 6 pack somewhere in British Colombia.

Waiting

Waiting

Waiting is sometimes a good part of a treeplanter life, waiting for trees, waiting for land.

Maple Leaf

Maple Leaf

Canadian treeplanters are sometimes really proud of their origins. Some say that treeplanting is a rite of passage for young canadians. I guess you will have to try it to find out.

Hard day

Hard day

It is a common thing to say that treeplanters are hard workers. It could be the worst job of your life of course, with the conditions and temperatures that are not always so kind to humans beings. But it is also the best job because we work everyday outside, under the sun surrounded by the most beautiful pieces of nature that I saw in my life. The view is worth it. I don't think you ever see mountains like us by your office window.

Smokes

Smokes

A lot of treeplanters smoke cigarettes. It is a really good treat when you have a couple of minutes to smoke at the cache and will make you feel way better on the hard days.

Day off planting

Day off planting

Sometimes, we have days off, which means that you have the option to plant for one more day during the shift, during the day off. Those days are really fun cause first you can take pictures and also because it is shorter and a bit less serious.

For the better and the worse

For the better and the worse

Team work is primordial when you are planting trees. We ll be working with the same people for three months, you better team up and deal with the wilderness without fighting for stupid things.

Happy ending

Happy ending

The happy smile of a planter who is excited to be home soon.

Dark Vador

Dark Vador

The foreman is the leader of the crew. He has to take care of every details so the day can go easily. He has to make sure that his planters always have enough trees. Depending on the size of his crew, the foreman has manage six to eighteen planters.

Shade

Shade

Sometimes, planters need a little break away from the sun. Somedays, the temperature can go up to 40 degrees.

Wasp attack

Wasp attack

You never know what can happen if you plant next to a wasp nest. Alex and Robert were both planting on a piece that was full of nests. They wanted to make fun of those wasps by throwing things on the nests, but it is the wasps that made fun of them with a lot stinging. Alex was especially unlucky with his eye. That pictures has been taken a couple of days after the incident.

Rookie

Rookie

Rosalie had a big smile that day cause the last day also meant that she was not a rookie anymore. She was the first one to get a shovel and uses it really well. I guess she is pretty excited to come back for a second season.

One tree away from home

One tree away from home

On the last day, all the crews are sent to different locations to finish the last amount of trees. They never really know how the last day is going to be or how many trees are left. So most of the people get pretty excited about planting for the last time of the season and those days can go fast.

Last day

Last day

On our last day, we waited two hours for trees. I took the occasion to catch a couple pictures.

Where's my next tree ?

Where's my next tree ?

The only thing you should think about when you are planting is ''where is my next tree''. Other toughts should not pollute your mind. Planting is kind of a type of meditation. If you are able to empty your minds, the day will be way easier.

Shawn

Shawn

I don't know him very well, we only plant on the same piece for one day. The only thing I know about him is that he was the only planter willing to pose for the camera which is really awesome for a photographer cause the conditions to take pictures on the block are not so easy.
